Happy Thanksgiving!

Ahinas on a 3-month furlough in the U.S. celebrating Thanksgiving today in Washington State.

Happy Thanksgiving Friends and Family!

This past month we had the wonderful blessing to serve with Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church (RBPC) in Tikinmul, a small pueblo in the state of Campeche, building a new water plant.

We want to share a short story about gratitude that transpired during the week there. In addition to construction, during the afternoons, we helped with Vacation Bible School (VBS) in which 100 children came each day.

During Bible stories, Laura from RBPC tried to enlist the help of the local VBS leaders to teach the children the song, “This Little Light of Mine.” At first, no one knew the song. But Laura kept singing it to them. We almost decided to ditch the idea when suddenly one of the church women sitting in began singing it in Spanish.

Inez asked her if she wouldn’t mind staying for two more sessions to teach the song to the other children. She willingly obliged -- which was great because the song fit in with the little finger lights RBPC brought to use while singing the song. The children were ecstatic. On the last evening after the farewell service, the church had us and the RBPC team sit in a row facing the children. They wanted to offer us their gratitude by first singing a beautiful song in English, which was impressive. Then as the lights went off in the court, the children turned their little finger lights on, and they all sang This Little Light of Mine for us in Spanish.

Children in Tikinmul, Campeche sing their hearts out in gratitude to "This Little Light of Mine."

The kids sang with such enthusiasm and emotion that their sincere gratitude brought tears to our eyes. What they received, they shared back with us in a big way.

So, in turn and with deep gratitude, we share this wonderful moment of praise with you. Thank you for your support of giving and prayer, allowing us the opportunity to share the light of Christ to those we serve in the Yucatan Peninsula. We could not do what we do without you!

May you and your loved ones enjoy your Thanksgiving filled with gratitude. God's abundant grace be upon each of you!

"I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving." -Psalm 69:30
